Korea's death rate from industrial accidents keeps improving, yet the country still ranks near the bottom among OECD nations. The industrial accidents that occur on the largest scale are, without question, chemical accidents. Once such an accident happens, it harms not only the lives of the workers employed in that industry but also leaves the surrounding community trembling with anxiety.
There are many study guides for getting hired at a chemical plant or books for acquiring certifications, but books dealing with safety—the most important subject of all—are few. Moreover, the range that a practitioner's eyes can cover on the ground is limited. Everyone knows that industrial safety is important, but in actual practice an environment has formed in which safety goes unconsidered without anyone being aware of it.
In response, four authors, each with more than 25 years of experience in fields related to chemical-industry safety, joined together with the goal of building a "safe Korea" and wrote Safety Insight (안전 인사이트). The book contains the core know-how of safety management for preventing accidents among everyone who works in chemical plants and general industrial sites. It explains that know-how by dividing it into the three central pillars of industrial safety: people, systems, and equipment.
Safety Insight will awaken not only engineering students and engineers and chemical-plant workers, but everyone employed in general manufacturing and construction, to the need for proper safety awareness and behavior and for a safety culture and leadership.
